Endocrinology and reproductive medicine are medical disciplines with high levels in dynamics regarding the scientific and clinical progress. The extension of knowledge is hardly covered even by experts. The more it is of importance to keep the knowledge on a high level by stand-by availability of fast access to reviews, well understandable and regularly updated. Cnnventional print media have the clear advantage of giving the reader well arranged informations; however, after publishing the informations still not up-to-date. In opposite, online resources do have tremendous advantages:

Especially in clinical and ambulant settings medical online resources give fast access to up-to-date information about 'best available' treatment procedures of patients.
In January 1, 2000, the editors published a localised German version a medical online resource in gynaecological endocrinology, called the "Internet basierte Klinische Empfehlungen in Gynäkologischer Endokrinologie , IKEGE" (http://www.gyn-endo-handbuch.de") including two chapters: "Functional hypernandrogenism (FOHA)" and "Laboratory analysis". During the last two years we monitored the acceptance and usage of our internet resource IKEGE and detected a moderate rate of about 20.000 hits per month.

These were reasons enuogh for us to establish an English speaking, international version of an internet based, online information resource for endocrinology and reproduction to disseminate up-to-date reviews worldwide over the internet.

Thus, we will start our international CER-online review journal in January 2003 by publishing the first review chapter "Therapeutical strategies in climacteric transition and postmenopause - update 2003"

Our aims for 2003/04 are to prepare, collect and disseminate other interesting and important reviews in clinical endocrinology and reproduction in this CER-online review journal.
